St. John's Society Organ Recitals - Bangor

St. John’s Organ Society is pleased to announce the 33rd Recital Series on Maine’s largest 19th-Century mechanical-action pipe organ, E. & G. G. Hook’s magnificent Opus 288, at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church in Bangor. 

John Fesperman, curator emeritus of musical instruments at the Smithsonian Institution, referred to the St. John's Organ as "a musical monument of great importance...."

The 2026 summer concerts will be performed on Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. beginning on July 30. The schedule is as follows:

July 30: Ray Cornils (West Bath, ME), Music of Price, Guilmant, Cooman and Weaver

August 6: Bridgette Wargovich (Portland, ME), Music of Felix Mendelssohn, Heinrich Scheidemann, and Théodore Dubois

August 13: Katherine Johnson, New Haven, CT), Music of J.S. Bach, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, and Felix Mendelssohn

August 20: Sarah Johnson (New Haven, CT), Music of J.S. Bach, Florence Price, and John Knowles Paine

August 27: Kevin Birch (Bangor, ME), Music of Dudley Buck, Felix Mendelssohn, and Robert Schumann
